Can the Google Android 7" Tablet view pdfs?

I need to read some pdfs on to go. I was thinking the Kindle (too expensive), so I looked to the Sony Reader (looked okay). Then I stumbled on the Google Android (I'm a huge fan), but can it read pdfs?

I need it to read pdfs. And I don't have a ton of money. Can I do it on the google android?

Auch wenn schon zahlreiche Tablets angekündigt wurden, sind noch nicht ganz so viele wirklich erhältlich. Ein Windows 7 Tablet gibt es noch immer nicht in Deutschland, allerdings kann man sich bereits ganz einfach eins von der griechischen Firma Efox bestellen. Wir haben den Efox Tablet PC  ausführlich getestet und mit dem iPad verglichen. Außerdem könnt ihr auch ein Exemplar dieses Windows 7 Tablets gewinnen, genaue Informationen dazu am Ende des Beitrags.

Der Efox Tablet PC kommt mit typischen Netbook Spezifikationen, wie auch die vielen anderen Windows 7 Tablets die bisher angekündigt wurden, aber noch lange nicht erhältlich sein werden. In dem Tablet steckt ein Intel Atom N450 Prozessor der bei 1,6GHz getaktet ist. Dazu kommen 1GB Ram und eine 160GB Festplatte, die ordentlich Platz für Programme, Bilder und Videos liefern dürfte. Das Display ist 10 Zoll groß und hat eine Auflösung von 1024×600 Pixel, der Touchscreen ist resistiv und hat leider kein Multitouch. Ein resistiver Touchscreen bedeutet, dass dieser auf Druck reagiert und man den besser mit einem Stylus oder den Fingernägeln bedienen kann. Natürlich kann man auch ganz normal mit den Fingern das Tablet bedienen, dafür muss man aber etwas fester aufdrücken.

 

Da der Efox Tablet PC mit einem x86 Prozessor und einer normalen Festplatte kommt, ist das deutlich dicker als das iPad und hat auch einen Lüfter, den man wie bei einem Netbook auch hört wenn es leise im Raum ist. Diese Plattform hat allerdings auch große Vorteile, denn da auf dem Tablet Windows 7 Home Premium oder Ubuntu Linux läuft, kann man ganz normales Flash installieren und somit auch sämtliche Flash Webseiten und Videos aufrufen. Man kann mit dem Efox Tablet PC all das machen, was auch mit einem normalen Computer möglich ist, z.B. normale Windows Programme installieren und drucken, was auf dem iPad nur eingeschränkt über einige Apps möglich ist.

 

Der Efox Tablet PC hat drei USB 2.0 Ports, einen VGA Ausgang, einen Kartenleser und die typischen Audio Ein- und Ausgänge. Dies ist auf dem iPad natürlich nicht möglich. Auch das integrierte UMTS Modem funktioniert super, man muss einfach nur eine Sim Karte einlegen und kann lossurfen.

 

Der Efox Tablet PC kommt entweder ohne Betriebssystem, dann kann man super Ubuntu Linux nutzen, oder aber mit Windows 7 Home Premium. Anders als beim iPad und den Android Tablets ist also kein mobiles Betriebssystem vorinstalliert, sondern das Tablet verhält sich wie ein normaler Computer. Trotzdem kann man auch über den Touchscreen recht gut surfen und E-Books lesen. Mit dem Google Chrome Plugin ChromeTouch kann man mit den Fingern so scrollen wie auf dem iPad und dank der Kindle App für Windows kann man auch E-Books lesen – PDFs gehen ja sowieso. Auch die Windows 7 Touch Features sind in Ordnung, darunter ist z.B. eine onScreen Tastatur, Schrifterkennung und Gesten.

Wie gesagt, die typischen Netbook Spezifikationen haben mit Flash und Windows 7 einige Vorteile, aber natürlich auch Nachteile. Nicht nur ist das Efox Tablet mit 1kg ein wenig schwerer als das iPad, sondern auch die Akkulaufzeit ist deutlich geringer. Mit 2 Stunden gibt der Hersteller die Akkulaufzeit an. Man kann diesen zwar austauschen und durch einen zweiten Akku ersetzen, aber das Efox Tablet eignet sich wohl eher als Begleiter zu Hause, z.B. um auf der Couch zu surfen oder um im Bett Videos zu gucken.
